At the time of building Riversinfo Austraila I served as a Director of the Environmental Information Association of Australia (Incorporated) and on River and Water Management Committees. This allowed me to work with a number of stakeholders in developing environmental information systems that deliver definitive environmental reference material.
I have undertaken Other project work for the Centre for Integrated Catchment Management (UWS). The project areas broadly included:
Preparation of Environmental Management Plans;
Construction of Environmental Internet Sites; and
Preparation of Environmental Education Material.
I was previously employed by the CSIRO and worked on problems of pollution and waste management from mines, agriculture and urban and industrial development. The work encompassed:
Large-scale field surveys involving hydrodynamic water tracing and chemical sampling;
Analysis of levels of contaminants in effluents, receiving waters, sediments, soils and solid wastes;
Evaluation of pollution control strategies using systems analysis modeling;
Water Chemistry;
Particle sizing for characterizing sediment present in runoff samples using laser ensemble light scattering.
Evaluating Non-Point Source Pollution and Contaminant Fate and Transport Models in Aquatic Systems;
Computer Cartography & Spatial Analysis.
I co-authored a number of reports, two major reports to which I contributed were concerned with:
The pollution assimilating capacity of creeks in Sydney's North West Sector; and
The role of sediments in the storage and remobilization of contaminants in the Hawkesbury Nepean River.
I have made contributions to projects in the following areas:
Master Thesis - Environmental Science - Geographical Information Systems
Using previous work in Group Theory, Coding and Information Theory I established that existing procedures for product quality and performance had not been followed in the production of a GIS program. It was proven that the particular GIS modeling software contained and produced a number of serious mistakes including:
A defective land surface reconstruction algorithm that combined with inadequate information, amongst other things, left enormous cliffs undetected, coded square kilometres of flat land as having aspect and exhibited substantial directional instability;
The GIS system calculated fire intensity using a land surface reconstruction algorithm that could not discriminate a cliff of approximately 300 metres and added vector quantities as scalars;
The AMG Easting and Northing coordinates stated for databases using this software did not and could not exist;
The methods of "statistical analysis" explained in the software manual and demonstration tutorial exercises were consistently wrong; and
Incorrect coding existed over square kilometres of the database prepared from maps scaled at 1:25,000.
As a result of the shortcomings identified it was recommended that an inquiry be conducted to investigate:
The technical feasibility of each project for which the package had been used;
The full extent and consequences of the failings inherent within the package; and
The suitability of the GIS package for the purposes for which it is sold.
A paper supporting the claims made in the thesis was subjected to independent review by three impartial referees and published in the Australian Journal of Soil and Water Conservation (Volume 1 number 9 February 1996).
While studying for a B.Sc. in pure mathematics at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) I undertook subjects in statistics, biology and chemistry and commenced a BA degree at Macquarie University. I completed third year level chemistry at Macquarie University and the Post-Graduate Masters Degree in Environmental Science at the University of Western Sydney Hawkesbury (UWSH) at the same time.

The structure of abstract systems especially the relationships between time, asymmetry, mathematics, chemistry and biology.
Environmentally sustainable development and the concurrent requirements to address issues of international equity.
My hobbies include cycling, hiking and photography.
